Crater Lake
Early light baths a tree with warm light that signals the beginning of the end of winter.
Owens Valley
The foliage in Owens Valley reminds me of a prized work of embroidery. The colors, textures, and tones in the landscape create the same illusions as skillfully woven thread on a delicate fabric.
Eastern Sierra
Some of the strangest formations I've ever seen exist in the valleys east of the Sierra. While photographing this partiuclar formation, I had an odd feeling that I had seen places like this in the Dr. Suess stories I read to my daughter long ago.
Olympic National Park
A tidal pool, low tide, and sunset come together in this sunset at Second Beach.
Olympic National Park
A rush of waves crashes in to hidden grotto lit by the last light of the day.
Olympic National Park
Reflections during low tide at Second Beach.
Atchafalaya River Basin
Autumn colors in the Atchafalaya River basin.
Columbia River Gorge
Fairy Falls in the Columbia River gorge.
Factory Butte
This intimate landscape of the side of Factory Butte is an amazing array of color, pattern, and texture. Love it!
Sedona Arizona
Just outside Sedona on the last night of a two week trip, I was entertained by violent weather cell that give me two or three lightning strikes every minute for about ten minutes. And the lightning kept its distance. And I didn't get wet either!
Eastern Sierra
I can't remember the name of this mountain, which is a shame since it is such a solitary beauty. Let me know if you know the name!
Olympic National Park
A moss-covered tree in Olympic National Park. The distortion is due to the fact that this is a multiple image panorama.
Eastern Sierra
The fact that such color can exist in an area that is often parched with drought is a testament to the driving force in nature: beauty!
Columbia River Gorge
Punchbowl Falls in the Columbia River gorge.
Trona Pinnacles
A silhouette of the Trona Pinnacles in the southern reaches of Panamint Valley.
Tremont
I could not repeat this again if I tried. I have no idea how I simutaneously captured a blurry scene with just enough detail to make it look like you're viewing the scene through a screen door.
Monument Valley
Venus and Mercury shine brightly in this image of the mittens in Monument Valley.
White Mountains
Bristlecone pines. Clearing storm clouds. the last light of the day. Need I say more? Nope.
Monument Valley
Tear Drop Arch
Monument Valley
During this visit to Monument Valley, the sky was filled with smoke from surrounding wildfires. I accentuated the effect in this in-camera double exposure using the hazy sky to blur the foreground.
Yellowstone National Park
A long exposure taken at the overlook to the famous Grand Prismatic Spring.
San Juan Mountains
The first snow of the season greets the fall colors in this image of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado.
Coalmine Canyon
For such a stunning location, this is a relatively unknown area. The sunrise was spectacular on this morning.
White Mountains
Looking at this image, you wouldn't think that this is the White Mountains in south central California.
Mono Lake
Mono Lake is a long and tortured story of poor water management. It is worth the time learning about how Mono Lake became what it is today. It is even more worth the time to make a visit to this place to see it for yourself!
Stonehenge
OK, seeing a rainbow over Stonehenge was an unforgettable experience! (Thanks to my buddy Desmond for being my driver because I was too chicken to drive on the left side of the road.)
My Driveway
I literally took this image from my driveway one morning. You can tell that I overslept my alarm, which I set early enough to make it to Foothills Parkway. :(
But I didn't want to waste the opportunity, so I fired away. This reminds me of a fresco painting on the ceiling of an Italian cathedral. Maybe I should entitle it "Homage to Michelangelo?"
Old Car City
Even rusty old cars can create interesting landscapes. This hood ornament is probably the coolest thing I saw on this day in Old Car City outside Atlanta. They don't make 'em like this anymore!
Tremont
I love it when residual shapes and forms that result from camera motion create pleasing compositions. The creative eye enjoys these basic elements of design even when detail and structure are absent.
Eastern Sierra
Near Mammoth Lakes, the first snow of the season was deep enough to cover the mountain, but not too deep to prevent access to this location. Fortunately!
Old Car City
So here is another rusty old car from Old Car City. Cool steel landscape!
Knoxville, TN
Just off Market Square in downtown Knoxville is an alley known as a showcase for local graffiti artists. I love trying to find my own art hidden in theirs!
Mingus Lake
I've never heard of Mingus Lake, either, but this tuft of grass could be anywhere. Sometimes the raw essence of photography is a simple line or curve.
